Burlington is a leading community for cycling in and around the Greater Golden Horseshoe region. Their drivers are somewhat courteous, and their bike lanes many - right up to transit stations. Ride to the waterfront from the Burlington GO station, along the Centennial Trail to Old Burlington from the train at Appleby, or jump the bike lane on Plains Rd. west from Aldershot station to the Royal Botanical Gardens. RBG, Old Burlington, the Beachway, Centennial Trail and the greenbelt are great for a little cycling, sightseeing, dinner and sun bathing!

Recommended for all casual riders, all experienced ages - some bike lanes are alongside traffic. Use the new Hamilton Bike Routes, Trails & Parks (pdf) map or the Burlington Cycling Map (pdf) to stay safe and get the most out of your day.

BURLINGTON - from the GO Train to the BURLINGTON BEACHWAY

Burlington's waterfront is very easily reached from the GO Train, or from Hamilton via HSR. From there, the cycling stretches past the beaches and dunes of the Burlington Beachway at the west end of Lake Ontario - across a causeway - to Hamilton's shore. The ride is very memorable, including great bike lanes and wide trails, a lift bridge, historical neighbourhood, light house and a waterworld!

Bike Route Maps:

Route Notes:

  • From the Burlington GO station, cycle the bike lane on Fairview west, then south down Brant Street to Old Burlington and the Waterfront Trail.
  • The bike lane will end in the old part of town, but drivers are pretty good. Alternatively, take Fairview west to Maple south.
  • Hamilton cyclists: Take HSR #11 to Old Burlington and ride the Waterfront Trail south homeward!
  • From Old Burlington, follow the Trail southwest along to the Burlington Beachway.
  • Continue south along the shoreline, follow trailside maps across the lift bridge.
  • The Trail continues all the way, past Hamilton's Beach Strip and Waterworks to Confederation Park.
  • Hamiltonians: ride all the way to catch the GO Train home from Appleby GO train station!

  • At Appleby, take a left south to the illuminated crosswalk: that is the east-west Centennial Trail
